چکیده

Joint diseases, such as osteoarthritis, induce pain and loss of mobility to millions people around the world. Current clinical methods for diagnosis osteoarthritis include X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging, arthroscopy. These may be insensitive earliest signs osteoarthritis. This study investigates a new procedure that was developed validated numerically use in evaluation cartilage quality. finite element model human articular could helpful providing insight into mechanisms injury, effects treatment, role mechanical factors degenerativeconditions, this three-dimensional is useful tool understanding stress distributions within response external loads investigating both prevention injury pathological degeneration joints. In study, 21 models were analysed by using ANSYS workbench v12.1: four normal (distal femur, patella, medial lateral tibia). A redesign distal femur done get (simple deep) seven making partial cut without affecting subchondral bone, full with part bone different diameters. Finally treatment replacing defective parts artificial cartilages types treatment. The analysis studied depending on Von Mises criteria total deformation activities. results shows Autologous Chondrocyte Implementation best way it close 87.50% cartilage. can used diagnostic osteoarthritic patients choose options.

The Effects of Thickness on Biomechanical Behavior of Articular Cartilage: a Finite Element Analysis

It is important to study joint contact mechanics in order to understand the human joint function and degeneration. In previous studies, the cartilage behavior was investigated using computational method assuming the cartilage to be flat and an ideal thickness. But, this assumption may not appropriate because the joint is naturally curved and the cartilage thickness varies across the articular c...

Finite Element Analysis of Permeation Tests on Articular Cartilage under Different Testing Conditions Using COMSOL Multiphysics

Articular cartilage is composed of a charged solid matrix (proteoglycan and collagen fibres) and an interstitial fluid phase. The tissue is characterized by a very low permeability that guarantee the support and distribution of loads in diarthrodial joints and the transport of nutrients to chondrocytes. The permeability of articular cartilage decreases for increasing deformation of the solid ma...

Stress Analysis of the Human Ligamentous Lumber Spine-From Computer-Assisted Tomography to Finite Element Analysis

Detailed investigation on biomechanics of a complex structure such as the human lumbar spine requires the use of advanced computer-based technique for both the geometrical reconstruction and the stress analysis. In the present study, the computer-assisted tomography (CAT) and finite element method (FEM) are merged to perform detailed three dimensional nonlinear analysis of the human ligamentous...

Differential Immunohistochemical Expression Pattern of Galectin-3 in Normal and Osteoarthritic Human Articular Cartilage

Background: Previous studies have shown that Galectin-3, a member of lectin family, is expressed in developing cartilage in mouse embryo and also in growth plate of long bones.   Objective: In the present work, the expression pattern of Galectin-3 in normal and various grades of osteoarthritic (OA) human articular cartilage has been studied.   Methods: Using immunohistochemistry and standard we...
